Sandwich Seminar: Our Courage to Teach: Black and White Women forging Education Advancement in America
Summary or brief description of topic to be used for publicizing event on campus: Accumulating accounts within the literature acknowledge connections between gendered racism, poor health and weathering in Black women. Correspondingly, there are alarming recent reports indicating that employment in predominantly white institutions (PWls) may contribute to impaired health in Black women. In the presentation, I discuss this phenomenon and alarming findings from my dissertation research, which interrogated the lived experiences of 8 Black women faculty who teach at various PWls across the US.
