Democracy Engagement Fellows: Discipline-Based Civic Decision Making
In spring 2024, four faculty members pioneered the Cortland Applied Learning Practitioners' "Democracy Engagement Fellows" program. Through this program, they incorporated applied learning (learning by doing) strategies to one of their syllabi, focusing the applied learning project on a collaboration with government. These pioneers will reflect on considerations such as ways in which this work changed their understanding of the purpose and importance of their teaching, and new opportunities for scholarship.
The presenters are Deborah Silvis (Childhood/Early Childhood Education), Gabriel Colella (English), and Jason Page (Recreation, Parks, and Leisure Studies.
This program is part of the Barbara A. Galpin '68, M '74 Institute for Civic Engagement's "Dragons for Democracy" initiative.
