Antisemitism in the United States is often misunderstood, reduced to conspiracy thinking or individual prejudice despite its deeper historical roots.

Drawing on archival sources from 1654 to the present, Britt Tevis, an assistant professor of history at Syracuse University, shows how anti-Jewish bigotry has repeatedly aimed to erode Jews’ civil and political rights, driven by Christian nationalism, racial science and conspiratorial ideology.
