What can teacher educators do to better prepare candidates for a heightened environment of censorship?

To shed light on this question, we explored teaching hard history through Critical Simulations (CritSIMs). The CritSIM approach is an application of clinical simulations, a practice-based pedagogy most commonly associated with the medical field and applied to teacher education at a handful of top-tier universities.

This seminar will provide an overview of the CritSIM approach, and the simulated experience developed to support candidates teach hard history, as well as preliminary findings on the authenticity of this innovative approach and on how teacher candidates in this simulation their curricular decisions as they navigated challenging conversations with parents.
