One-Day Workshop for Professional Staff and Faculty: The Hidden Connection: Linking Executive Function with Student Behavior and Success

Two full-day (6 hour) workshops will be offered:

Jan. 16 – for Professional Staff

Jan. 17 – for Faculty

With facilitator and expert Emily Helft, 

Assistant Director of Professional Development, Landmark College Institute for Research and Training

The workshop focuses on understanding executive function skills to support student’s behavior and success. Lunch and breaks will be provided.

Participants can expect to learn:

·       An overview of young adult success behaviors within the classroom and their link with mutual student and faculty goals 

·       An introduction to a matrix to reframe instructors’ mindset around the student support process 

·       An overview of the three building blocks of executive function (EF) and how they show us the “WAI” to student success 

·       An introduction to cognitive load and the role it plays in behavior, memory, and learning 

·       Realistic strategy suggestions for supporting EF within the context of the virtual and physical classroom environments

·       Interwoven experiential activities to increase engagement and support understanding
